UK Ancestry Visa

UK Ancestry Visa

Ancestry Visa permits Commonwealth citizens to immigrate to the UK to live and work for a period of 5 years. Prior to 2006, this period was only 4 years. These visa holders are however able to apply for an extension on their 4 year visa. Popularly known as the British Ancestry Visa, this visa is issued if an applicant can prove one or more of their grandparents were born in the UK, Isle of Man or the Channel Islands. Successful applicants have the benefit of unrestricted employment opportunities for the full 5 year tenure. On successful completion of the 5 years and the fulfillment of all the essential criteria, Ancestry Visa holders can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain or permanent residency in the UK. Applicants under the age of 18 or over 65 years must have a good grasp of English language and of life in the UK to obtain ILR approval.

Denmark Work Permit

Denmark Work Permit

If you are an EU, EEA or Nordic citizen, in the majority of cases you will not require a work permit for Denmark. If you have already entered Denmark based on a Family Reunification Visa or on humanitarian grounds then you will also not be required to hold a work permit.

There are a variety of different schemes available for skilled workers to obtain Work Permits in Denmark, for further information regarding these schemes please see below.

Corporate Scheme: This scheme allows companies to transfer essential employees and allow them to work in a subsidiary, parent or sister company for a specific duration.

Green Card Scheme: This permit is for highly qualified workers that wish to visit and gain full time employment in Denmark. If you are a religious worker, athlete, trainee or researcher there are also pathways solely designed for you to gain a visa under this scheme.

The Positive List: This list is a shortage occupation list and details the occupations that currently need filling in Denmark. Please note that diplomats, transport industry employees and some professional musicians or performing artists may be exempt from needing a Work Permit in order to work in Denmark. This is also true for some Turkish citizens.

In order for an applicant to qualify for a Denmark Green Card which would grant the individual permanent residence in Denmark, they would need to meet the point’s requirement in accordance with Danish Immigration system.

The applicant would need to score a minimum of 100 points based on age, education and language with work experience. The education section of the Denmark Green Card is reviewed by CIRIUS. CIRIUS itself is overseen by Denmark Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Points for education are awarded on the following basis:

30 points – Bachelors degree

60 points – Masters Degree

80 points – PHD

Further points can be obtained if the applicant’s school ranks in the world’s top 400 educational institutes. Denmark also has its own form of shortage occupation list known as “the Positive List”. If the candidate’s education is related to any of the jobs that are stated on this list, this would allow them to receive a further 10 points.

Along with the requirements mentioned above the candidate can potentially obtain 30 points if they are proficient in English or German and Swedish, Norwegian or Danish. In order to verify and prove the applicants eligibility to obtain points for the language requirements for the Denmark green card they will be required to sit tests in both languages, this includes the Danish Level 1 test.
